Description

Ruby shellac is widely used in various applications by artists, carpenters, decorators, and gilders.. Gilders use shellac over gesso—a mixture of rabbit skin glue and whiting—to prevent the gilding size from mixing in. They also apply shellac directly to the metal leaf after it has been applied, using various techniques to protect it from potential oxidation. Shellac serves as a classic sealer for artists seeking a professional finish in their artwork.

A brush, cotton yarn, or microfiber-cloth can be used to apply shellac.
It is non-toxic as is.
Shellac is only usable indoors.

Mixing ratio: 1 part by weight of Shellac to 4 or 5 parts by weight of Alcohol.

Combine the ingredients in a container with a tightly fitting lid. Soak the shellac flakes in about half of the alcohol to be used for 24 hours or longer. Stir occasionally, and when dissolved, add the balance of the alcohol. After the shellac is fully dissolved, it should be strained through a fine mesh cloth to remove impurities. Store in a cool and dark place.
