The 24K gold leaf is used for exterior gilding to prevent oxidation, and varnish is unnecessary when using this gold leaf type. You can gild with any carat for the interior, but gilding with less than 24k or imitation gold leafs must be protected with varnish to avoid oxidation. The gold leaf width is available from 10mm to 90mm.
